Pet Vaccination

Animal Care in Newport

Cat and Kitten Vaccinations

Cat vaccinations may start from 9 weeks of age, and the second dose is given three weeks later. Kitten vaccinations protect against cat flu and enteritis, and feline leukaemia. A separate vaccine can be give to protect against chlamydia (eye disease). As with dog vaccinations, booster vaccinations are annual. Our kitten starter pack includes microchip, worm and flea treatment for complete protection and safety. For more information about vaccinations click here

Rabbit Vaccinations

Rabbits may be vaccinated against Myxomatosis as early as 6 weeks old, and against Viral Haemorrhagic Disease at 12 weeks of age. A single dose of each is sufficient to produce strong immunity, and for best protection they should not be given together: there should be an interval of two weeks between them. Sometimes pet rabbits go missing, so we are offering to microchip your pet at the time of vaccination. For information on how these diseases may affect your pet rabbit, please refer to our Vaccinating Your Rabbit page. For more information about caring for your rabbit click here

Dog and Puppy Vaccination

Dog vaccinations start at 8 weeks of age, when puppies are protected against 5 potentially lethal diseases including parvovirus and distemper. A second injection must be given two weeks later to maximize the immunity. Booster vaccinations are given annually, and must be kept up to date otherwise there may be nothing left to boost. It must be remembered that the young and old are most at risk from infection. For more information about vaccinations click here. At Caerleon Veterinary Centre our puppy starter package includes free wormer, flea treatment and microchip to ensure complete protection and safety.

Rabies Vaccinations

Rabies vaccinations must be given prior to travelling abroad with your cat or dog under the Pet Travel Scheme. Rabies vaccination consists of a single shot and, if you wish your pet to travel abroad with you, it must be microchipped beforehand. A blood sample is taken 30 days later to ensure that the vaccine has worked. For more information about rabies vaccinations click here

Please contact us well in advance of making travel arrangements to ensure that your pet's vaccinations comply with the Pet Passport Scheme's strict regulations. At the very least it takes seven months from starting the scheme before your pet can re-enter the UK.
